Explorer Classroom Cameroon: Sparking Curiosity, Expanding Horizons.

Imagine a classroom where hesitation turns into endless questions, and curiosity refuses to be contained. That’s exactly what happened on February 17th, 2026, when students from our After-School Tech Program in New Horizon Limbe, Cameroon, joined an Explorer Classroom session, “Unhidden Voices of History, with explorer James Edward Mills. The session, facilitated through BRIDGES and its project Ocean Splash Academy, focused on inclusive storytelling and amplifying community voices.

At first, the students were hesitant. The format was unfamiliar; this was not the traditional classroom dynamic they were used to. There was a quiet attempt to understand what was happening. But halfway through the session, something shifted.

Curiosity took over.

Watching the recordings later, I was struck by their transformation. Hands went up before questions were even completed. Students were eager not just to listen, but to respond. The session, scheduled for one hour and thirty minutes, extended beyond its time because the questions would not stop. Names had to be written down because so many students wanted to engage.

In my conversation with Ms Forbah Sandra, founder of BRIDGES, she mentioned something that stood out to her: attentiveness. While the explorer spoke, she took notes. Later, she asked the students questions and they responded thoughtfully. They were not passive listeners; they were processing, reflecting, connecting.

Ms Forbah Sandra explained that her motivation for starting Explorer Classroom sessions came from recognising a gap in exposure. She realised that the Explorer Classroom is a free resource available to institutions with access to the National Geographic Society. It offers direct, live conversations between explorers and students, demystifying careers and experiences that often feel distant or unattainable. For her, the idea was powerful, if students in Cameroon could interact one-on-one with global explorers, careers and possibilities would feel less distant. What once seemed extraordinary would become imaginable. What seemed foreign would become accessible. And they, too, can make a contribution to the world.

For BloomTech, partnering with BRIDGES was intentional. In Cameroon, technology and holistic education are still emerging spaces, and opportunities that combine global exposure, storytelling, and mentorship are rare. Even for me as founder, witnessing this experience unfold in our students was both humbling and heart-warming, it reminded me why we do this. We now have the ability to create spaces where these interactions are possible. Growing up, we did not have this kind of access; we did not have live sessions with explorers showing us that our environment does not define our limits

And that is precisely why it matters.

Holistic education is not just about exams or technical skills. It is about exposure. It is about creating moments, giving young people the opportunity to interact with professionals across fields, to ask questions freely and unfiltered, and to see themselves reflected in global narratives. It is about mentorship early enough to shape confidence and imagination.

If there is one thing I observed, it is this: young people do not lack curiosity. They lack doors.

When a door is opened, even virtually, they walk through it with boldness.

BloomTech exists to create those doors. To ensure that students dream beyond their immediate environment. To remind them that there is a world full of possibilities and they belong in it.

For schools, parents, and partners, the question is simple: what doors are we opening for our children? Exposure does not replace traditional education it expands it.

That afternoon, through “Unhidden Voices of History,” I felt the quiet confirmation of purpose.

Sometimes, all it takes is one conversation to expand a horizon.
